The ISO 22000 standard

The ISO 22000 standard requires an organization to ensure that food safety hazards are identified, evaluated and controlled so that they do not, directly or indirectly, harm the consumer.

ISO 22000 has a number of specific communication requirements. A compliant organisation should communicate appropriate food safety information relating to its products throughout the food chain. The standard states that there should be communication regarding the food safety management system throughout the organization to the extent necessary to ensure food safety.

In order to comply with ISO 22000 an organisation needs to evaluate the food safety management system at regular intervals to ensure that the system reflects its activities and considers the latest food safety information.
