A personal check is different from a business check in that it is used for personal payment and purchases.. Personal checks can be bought in a variety of styles. They can have only your initial as well as all pertinent information or they can have a picture on it. Personal checks do not have to be austere as do business checks because they do not have to impress a client or product or service provider.
The personal check is not new as the concept was used by the early Romans in 300 BC. At that time the purchaser would get a letter from the bank stating there was money in the bank to pay for the purchase. The information contained in that letter was exactly the same as the information contained on checks today.
